Ms. Julie Lymberopulos, participated in the Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, accompanied by the delegation of Panama Maritime Authority: Eng. Rafael Cigarruista, General Director of Merchant Marine and Capt. Juan Maltez, General Director of Seafarers, as well as the team of the General Consulate of Panama in Greece.

Panama Maritime Authority as sponsor of the Award for Achievement in Education or Training, was represented by Capt Juan Maltez who awarded the winner Ms. Irene Notias for the ‘Project Connect – Adopt a Ship’.

The “Adopt a Ship” program connects primary and junior high school pupils with seafarers, aiming to educate youngsters about the seafaring profession and the maritime sector. This innovative program involves the adoption of a vessel by a primary school class for one academic year. Throughout this period, pupils communicate with the crew weekly and gain first-hand knowledge of life at sea by sharing their experiences. Students get the opportunity to "travel" with the crew by tracking their voyage on a world map and engaging in interactive learning activities.
