Participation of the Embassy and General Consulate of Panama in Greece in ´´Days of Latin America in Thessaloniki 2023''

The Embassy and General Consulate of Panama in Greece, Deanship of the Embassies of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in the Hellenic Republic (GRULAC Hellas), participated in ´´Days of Latin America in Thessaloniki 2023'', which was held for the second year in Thessaloniki from the 16th to the 18th of May of the present year. This action was the result of a joint effort of the Group of Ambassadors of Latin America and the Caribbean countries in Greece (GRULAC Hellas) with Mr. Ioannis Papageorgiou, Professor and President of the Department of Political Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and with the kind support of the Thessaloniki Film Festival.

This year’s ´´Days of Latin America in Thessaloniki 2023'' included the second Latin American film festival, with eight films offered by Latin American Embassies in Greece (Argentina - Algo Incorrecto, Brazil - Iracema, Uma Transa Amazônica, Chile - Rey, Cuba - Habanastation, Mexico - Las Buenas hierbas, Panama  - Días de Luz, Peru - Tiempos Futuros and Venezuela - Hermano) and for the first time, a Roundtable between Latin American Diplomats and Academics and several discussions about Latin America both by and with students, which took take place at the premises of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The  official opening of the Latin American Film Festival took place at the John Cassavetes Cinema with the welcoming and addresses of the Honourable Professor Grigoris Zarotiadis, Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Political Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the introductory remarks of the Professor Ioannis Papageorgiou and the interventions of the present Ambassadors to Greece from Latin American countries (H.E. Mrs. Julie Lymberopulos - Ambassador of Panama and Dean of GRULAC Hellas, H.E. Mrs. Marisol Pérez Carranza - Ambassador of Chile, H.E. Mr. Aramís Fuente Hernández - Ambassador of Cuba and H.E. Mr. Alejandro García Moreno Elizondo - Ambassador of Mexico) about the commonalities in Greek and Latin America experiences and policies

The Roundtable about “The international role of Latin America today” between Latin American Diplomats and Academics took take place at the premises of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and virtually, coordinated by the Professor Ioannis Papageorgiou and Professor Yannis Stavrakakis, from the Department of Political Sciences. In this Roundtable H.E. Mrs. Julie Lymberopulos (Ambassador of Panama) and H.E. Mrs. Marisol Pérez Carranza (Ambassador of Chile) spoke about the role of Latin America in Climate change, H.E. Mr. Aramis Fuente Hernández (Ambassador of Cuba) and H.E. Mr. Alejandro García Moreno Elizondo (Ambassador of Mexico) spoke about the  contribution of Latin America and the Caribbean to international security and the Honourable Mr. Freddy Jesús Fernández Torres (Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Venezuela) spoke about the role of Latin America in Peace Diplomacy, Multipolarity and Multilateralism.

With the conclusion of the activities of ´´Days of Latin America in Thessaloniki 2023'', the participant Ambassadors of GRULAC Hellas who had physical presence in Thessaloniki held several Protocol Meetings with the local authorities of the city.
