Arsenio Antonio Domínguez Velasco, Director of the Marine Environment Division at the IMO

Panamanian with more than 25 years of experience in the international maritime sector, a career that has led him to become the first Latin American president of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) in the International Maritime Organization, thus chairing this very important committee in London, UK is one of his most important achievements.

His passion for the maritime sector dates back to high school, when he began to have a great interest in ships. Later, looking for a different university career, he encountered naval architecture and, thanks to the great effort of his parents, he traveled at the age of 18 to study in Veracruz, Mexico, which was the first time he traveled outside of Panama.

With the desire to continue learning, he is heading to study in England, a Master's in Business Administration and a Diploma in International Law and European Policy, among others. Experience, which has helped him to have different positions within the International Maritime Organization (IMO), where he has been Chief of Staff and Administrative Director. All that professional training has greatly contributed to his personal growth, with discipline and problem solving being one of his main skills to find solutions in difficult and sensitive discussions.

He is characterized by being a dedicated person, ready to help in whatever is necessary. He likes to empower and motivate people to share their ideas and proposals, maintain a positive work environment, actively looking for ways to improve the great contribution that is made to the world with everything that is transported by ship.

Currently, he serves as director of the Marine Environment Division. This Panamanian has managed to establish himself as an outstanding professional in the maritime sector abroad, and shares a sincere message to young people, “education is essential to achieve success. Dedication in everything one sets out to achieve the goals set is key. Effort, responsibility, and honesty are required to face any situation, always maintaining positivity and taking advantage of the opportunities that arise.”
